Ultraviolet crosslinking of DNA and RNA to nylon or nitrocellulose membranes is now well established as a laboratory technique. The time saving from UV cross-linking over the conventional vacuum oven baking method is considerable -seconds or minutes compared to hours. UVlink is  is an automatic microprocessor controlled cross-linker unit ideal for binding nucleic acids to membranes. The UV dosage is set from the membrane switch front panel keypad in either energy or time units - joules or seconds. There are 9 possible programmable setting each for time and energy(seconds/joules) as well as manual settings in both units. The programmed steps for time and energy are set by the user from zero to 99.99 joules/cm2 for energy and from0 to 999.9 minutes for time.

The UV energy is continuously monitored and controlled to compensate for variations from the UV source thus ensuring stable and repeatable exposures. Each unit is supplied with a set of 5 UV tubes for the wavelength specified for that model. You can change the wavelength of the cross-linker by fitting a different set of tubes (not included) and entering the new wavelength value in the software.

The UVlink is a compact unit occupying minimum bench space with a footprint of only 350 x 350 mm and a spacious interior chamber of 270 x 300 x 140 mm. As with all UVItec products safety is a major consideration so the CL-508 door is safety interlocked against opening during operation and the observation window in the door is ultraviolet-blocking. The ultraviolet energy is continuously monitored by an accurate, microprocessor-controlled, photo-feedback system which compensates for variation in output from the UV sources. In this way consistency of operation and maximum efficiency are maintained.
