The VariPol is a new polarimeter from Schmidt and Haensch. The system features an integrated optical bench, all new electronics and a new generation of smart polarimeter tubes. The optical bench, a concept originally pioneered by Schmidt and Haensch, provides high thermal, mechanical and optical stablity resulting in the high precison necessary to measure minute variations in optical rotation. The new configuration results in a much smaller instrument with a footprint about half the size of previous models. The new electronics are built around the latest A9 microprocesser which provides more computing power, storage and interface capabilities than previously available. The instrument is 21CFR part 11 ready, can interface via USB, serial, LAN, and Ethernet and store data for up 10 years. Calibration and verification can now be carried out automatically with the benefit of a new feature -Automatic Wavelength Correction (AWC). Simply insert the quartz plate and the VariPol will perform a calibration automatically. No mechanical adjustments need to be performed by the operator.
The user interface is a graphic display with touch screen. The VariPol is self monitoring and its AI will helps the operator by indicating on the display by means of a "traffic light" if the measurement result appears reliable. New advances have also been incoporated into the handling of temperature controlled samples. A new polarimeter tube has been designed in conjuction with the VariPol to achieve very accurate temperature control together with a rapid response. These "smart" tubes incorporate a chip that contains the tubes parameters and can be instantly read by the polarimeter.

In sum the VariPol incorporates all the latest developments in micro electronics, optics, and AI into a high precision Polarimeter with a Schmidt and Haensch pedigree.
